Written reports from subcommittees are due.

Statement of Needs Subcommittee

  • Chad Richardson (chair) will write an outline of the literature review with the assistance of other subcommittee members, and Cristina Villalobos who will write an outline of the math literature review (based on information the committee has already gathered and new material).

Background and Community Involvement Subcommittee

  • Bill Turk and Judy Davidson will write a report on the background and university-wide involvement from Phase I through the present

Student Learning Outcomes Subcommittee

  • Cristina Villalobos, John Bernard, Lokenath Debnath, Ana Maria Rodriguez will develop and/or select at least 10-15 student learning outcomes (SLOs) to recommend to the committee for the QEP math focus.

Math Proposal Design Subcommittee

  • Hector Ochoa, Karen Watt, and Jeanette Broshears will work with Dr. Arévalo and create proposal guidelines for the RFP (Request for Proposal) to present to the Math Department and other faculty by the beginning of February.

Math Seminar Speakers Subcommittee

  • Glenn Martinez will contact Jaime Escalante (California), Karen Watt will contact Uri Treisman (University of Texas, Austin), Jeanette Broshears will contact Max Warshauer (Texas State University) and invite them to campus the first week in February to conduct a Math Department Seminar.

QEP Phase I and II committees will meet in Library 310, 2:45-3:45 p.m. in order to update the Phase I committee of the progress.

January 25, 2006

University community receives announcement about the math RFP. Guidelines for developing the RFP, and due date deadlines will be announced.

 
January and
February, 2006

Student and faculty focus groups will be conducted by doctoral students as part of class assignments. The purpose of the focus groups will be to ask students about their experiences in developmental math courses, and to ask faculty about their perceptions of why students have difficulty with these classes.

 
February 2006

Invited math consultants (Treisman, Warshauer, and Escalante) will conduct a panel/seminar for the Math Department, QEP Committee, and other campus individuals who may be interested in the discussion.

 
March 1, 2006

QEP committee and individuals from Math Department will select the intervention proposals to use for the math-focused QEP.

 
May 15, 2006

Each of the area subcommittees will submit an internal rough draft of their assigned area. Subcommittees include: Focus Subcommittee, Institutional Capability and Initiation of the Plan Subcommittee, Assessment of the Plan Subcommittee, and Broad-based Involvement of the Community Subcommittee. (Committee members are to be assigned.)

 
Summer 2006

Management Plan Subcommittee, chaired by Gilbert De Los Santos, develops the budget and management design with assistance from other subcommittee members.
Assessment Plan Subcommittee, chaired by Ana Maria Rodriguez, develops the assessment plan with assistance from other subcommittee members.

 
September 2006

Completed rough draft of the QEP to present to Dr. Gerald Lord, UTPA’s SACS Liaison.

 

Dr. Lord will visit the campus on September 26, 2006 to review the QEP and make recommendations and suggestions.
